It may surprise and astound you to learn that some multi-million dollar construction companies have been known to plough a huge amount of resources into building a high-rise structure, only to demolish it some 50 stories out of the ground because in the middle of the building process, they were granted planning permission to add another 25 stories to the original design. Apparently from a financial point of view, the return on the larger building easily covers the cost of the original construction, the demolition and the rebuild and yields a healthy profit as well.
Wow! Well that is what I thought when I learned of this, wow and what a waste of resources. However now, seen as a metaphor for part of life's journey, it all makes sense.
I don’t know about you but I have often consciously set an intention to have and to be more, much, much more. To have more clarity, more abundance, more love, more patience, more compassion, more understanding, slimmer thighs…the list goes on. Having set a clear intention, I put it to one side. At some point further down the line my life starts to fall apart! I find myself surrounded by chaos, the wheels are falling off and everything is turning to custard.
Why? What did I do wrong? Nothing, it's simply all part of the process.
What has this got to do with tall buildings, you may ask?
When we ask for transformation we might need to let go of our small, limited lives in order to make way for something bigger, better, more joyful, more creative, more prosperous and that is where to the wrecking ball comes in. What we have worked so hard to create, needs to be demolished in order to make way for the new however what we have learned, we take with us.
I know it can be scary when the familiar packs up and gets ready to leave, it can be sad too and it’s okay to feel sad. Just because something is no longer relevant in our lives doesn’t mean that it wasn’t really meaningful in the past. This is opportunity disguised as loss.
Our full potential cannot be realised under the old conditions. In order to live the expanded vision we need to let go of anything standing in its way and be aware that somewhere along the line, this is what we asked for. We need to recognise that and to be grateful for it.
I find the analogy of destroying tall buildings in order to make something bigger and better, despite all the resources that went into creating them, reassuring. It helps me understand.
I want to learn to accept with grace any challenges that may come my way and enjoy the journey towards an ever expanding vision of myself. Having come this far I guess there is no turning back now anyway. So my fellow Awakened Wanderers, I don’t know about you but I say bring on the wrecking ball because I am reaching for the sky!
