Because I’m fed up with feeling that my feet are nailed to the floor in some areas of my life and moving forward feels like pushing porridge uphill, I adopted a rather gung-ho attitude when presented with an opportunity to get rid of the deeply held limitations that I hide from myself on a daily basis. Some may say I was a little foolish, naïve perhaps, others may be kind and say that it was brave.

It may surprise and astound you to learn that some multi-million dollar construction companies have been known to plough a huge amount of resources into building a high-rise structure, only to demolish it some 50 stories out of the ground because in the middle of the building process, they were granted planning permission to add another 25 stories to the original design. Apparently from a financial point of view, the return on the larger building easily covers the cost of the original construction, the demolition and the rebuild and yields a healthy profit as well.
Wow! Well that is what I thought when I learned of this, wow and what a waste of resources. However now, seen as a metaphor for part of life's journey, it all makes sense.
I don’t know about you but I have often consciously set an intention to have and to be more, much, much more. To have more clarity, more abundance, more love, more patience, more compassion, more understanding, slimmer thighs…the list goes on. Having set a clear intention, I put it to one side. At some point further down the line my life starts to fall apart! I find myself surrounded by chaos, the wheels are falling off and everything is turning to custard.
Well for a start they appropriated the Greek Gods and renamed them. The Gods that punished and tricked humanity and that needed to be appeased, sometimes requiring the blood sacrifice of beloved family member. Next they hijacked the teachings of Christ, the Prince of Peace, whose message was one of love, forgiveness and redemption. Then they mixed it all up, threw in some Old Testament for good measure and we ended up with a Christian God with anger management issues, hellfire and damnation. Yes it’s a very simplified account but you get my drift.
Whether we were raised in a Christian family or not, the belief that we are all inherently bad people and that we deserve to be punished appears to be ingrained in our collective consciousness.
We’ve all heard this quote attributed to Henry Ford, ‘If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you always got’. Now although I can take issue with the grammar, I cannot fault the logic.
If you want to alter your destination you need to change direction, simples. Even a small change in your course can dramatically alter the destination. Changing one or two degrees at the beginning of your journey results in a difference of many miles by the time you arrive.
All you have to do is decide. Decide to take the time to look at where you want to be or even who you want to be. Don’t be put off if it seems a long way from where you are now, as I said, just a small change in your course can dramatically alter your destination. However, you won’t know that unless you take the time to look!
